Brasil is the largest country in South America. It covers almost half of the whole continent's area. Right after Russia, China, Canada and the United States of America Brasil is the fifth largest country of the earth. The total area amounts to a 3.3 million square miles. 165 million people live in Brasil. Put together Brasil's sandy beaches stretch over a distance of 2700 miles.

Brasil's biggest cities boom in the east. 18 million people live in São Paulo according to official sources and 23 million according to inofficial informations. An then of course there's Rio de Janeiro - the touristic cliché - famous for its carnival. Brasília, the capital with its 1,8 million inhabitants lies far away in the inner part of the country.

Brasil's roads and highways are in all 800 000 miles long, but only about 10 percent of these are asphalted.
